Travelled up to Boston today and thought I would give the Hubway a try. I had received a free pass for the day and was really excited about trying it. It worked great. I took the bike from South Station to Park Plaza. It was only a few blocks but, there was a station within a block or two on both ends. Got into South Station during rush hour and there were a few bikes in the stalls. Took about four minutes to get through the process for the first time. The bike is sturdy and rides well. It is a little heavy but, fine for short commutes. The first half of my ride had a dedicated bike lane which was really nice. The second half of my ride was a little more precarious traversing tighter urban streets but, I feel confident on a bike so I was ok. It was about a four minute ride so, I did not over exert myself.
This is a great way to move quickly around the city for short distances. I was in long pants and had on a sports coat and felt fine. There is no doubt that Providence should move to a similar system. There are some challenges with hills but, it would be a great system within the city.
